I offer a unique viewpoint based on my hybrid design practice and project experience in graphic design and for the built environment. From my design school days and up to current work, I have always worked in a cross-discipline design method. I believe it is an important factor in being a well-rounded designer.
I enjoy the process of generating concept sketches from briefs or brainstorming sessions, doing research and heading into design development, schematic design and production to completion.
As a visual problem solver I enjoy the challenge of developing each design project, whether large or small, and believe being multi-disciplined, adaptive, collaborative, as well as having an entrepreneurial and marketing focus, has been key to my successful project outcomes for my clients.
A LITTLE HISTORY: I have been back in Detroit 1 year! I have lived away from Michigan for awhile - but I got my start in design working at Metro Times, quickly moving over to Crain Communications, working on Detroit Monthly magazine, Automotive News, and Crain's Business, and other local firms and business.
I then packed a bag for San Diego and spent 10 years working on cross-diciplinary projects for a SoCal Interior Design studio and an Environmental Graphic Design firm. Design also included print projects for various agencies.
The next move was to a 20 year Florida "gig", working first in Fort Lauderdale, then St. Augustine. Design projects included publishing, yacht and marine, building, healthcare, and corporate.
I am excited to be back in my hometown and getting involved in the great creative and design community here and being involved in the renewal and revivial of the city of Detroit!
I have cross-disciplinary design experience on all types and scope of project from print, web, digital, new media and for the built environment.
I have spent a number of years teaching design and I love it. It keeps me involved in this ever changing design world, watching design trends and continually advancing my software skills for best practices. I enjoy the interaction with creative students whether discussing design theory, real-world practice, or on their design projects towards a great outcome.
